Where each tool starts
Gemini starts as an assistant with a document surface (Canvas) attached; the book's structure is whatever you keep in the document. The studio starts from the brief and treats the outline as the spine: chapters are drafted against it, one at a time, and the plan is visible while each one is written.
What happens after the draft
From Canvas you export or copy a document and finish it elsewhere. From the studio you rewrite sections in place, set a cover, and download PDF, EPUB and DOCX built from the same chapters — with a contents page, a cover image inside the EPUB, and headings that survive into Word.
Which workflow fits whom
Choose Gemini for research, for working across Google's tools, and for drafting inside a document you will keep in Docs. Choose the studio when the end product is a book file and you want the outline, the writing and the exports to happen in one flow. Under the hood the studio can use a Gemini model to write; it adds the book-shaped workflow on top.
