Do I have to say the book used AI?
On KDP, yes when the AI created the content. Amazon separates two cases. "AI-generated" is text, images or translations created by an AI tool — and it stays AI-generated even if you edited it heavily afterwards. "AI-assisted" is content you created yourself and used AI to edit, refine or error-check. KDP requires you to inform them of AI-generated content when you publish a new book or republish an edited one; AI-assisted content needs no declaration. Who is responsible for what the AI wrote?
You are. KDP's guidelines say the publisher is responsible for verifying that all AI-generated and AI-assisted content adheres to the content guidelines, including intellectual property rights. In practice that means three checks before anything goes live: every factual claim traced to something you can point at, every quotation and statistic either sourced or cut, and nothing that reproduces someone else's work. A model will invent a study or a quotation without blinking; the book carries your name.
What makes an AI eBook worth buying?
The same thing that makes any eBook worth buying: a specific reader gets a specific result faster than they would alone. Generated text is cheap now, which means generic text is worthless. The books that sell are narrow — one job, one reader, one clear promise — and they are edited by someone who knows the subject well enough to cut what is wrong and add what only experience knows. Use the model for structure and first drafts; spend your own time on the parts a reader would pay for.
